The New Girl Upstairs - How to Tie a Silk Scarf

Don't believe the rumours!

Tying a scarf is not the hardest thing in the world to do.   It takes a little practice to build up confidence but the results are so worthwhile.   A beautiful scarf tied with a simple knot or two can inject a touch of individuality into any outfit and means one scarf can be worn in so many different ways.   Here at Scarf Room our beautiful silk scarves are having a moment so we thought it would be a good time to put together a timely video to showcase how easy tying your scarf can be and how elegant and striking it can look.   Here are our five current favourites:

The Drape

The simplest.   The classic.    For this I have chosen the Blue Large Floral Print Pure Silk Scarf. Fold your silk scarf in half to form a square and then again to form a triangle.  Fashion into a long tube with pointed ends.   Gently drape over a simple knit or elegant evening wear.  Et voila!  Beautiful.

 The Criss-Cross

An elegant alternative. Fold your silk scarf in half to form a square and then in half again to form a triangle.  Fashion into a long tube.   Double around the neck with the ends hanging down.   Take one of these ends at the mid-section, tuck it behind the neck wrap and pull a loop through.  Take the other end and pull it through this loop.   This produces an elegant criss-cross which injects a beautiful pop of colour into any outfit.

 The Side Knot

Very Parisian chic. Fold your silk scarf in half to form a triangle.    Drape over the shoulders and tie a knot in the centre using the two pointed ends.  Adjust the scarf so the knot is sitting on one shoulder and the main part of the scarf is gently draped over the other.   This allows the colour and detail of your silk scarf to be revealed.

 The Head Band

Getting a bit funky now. Fold your silk scarf in half to form a square and then again in half to form a triangle.   Fashion into a long tube with pointed ends.    Position around the head and fasten with a tight knot underneath the hair.    Gently pull to one side and release the long ends.   Capri here we come!

 The Handbag

Our final entry is stolen unashamedly from the Italians.  Fold your scarf in half and then fashion into a long tube.  Tie your chosen scarf around one handle of your handbag to show it off in a different way.

There must be scores of other ways to wear your scarf.   These are just a few.   Of course, if you have interesting ways to wear your silk or any other scarf, then please share.   We love your feedback.

Ciao bellissime.  A presto!
