Inside Team SR: Meet Our Web Manager

This month we caught up with Marie, Scarf Room’s Web Manager.

After gaining a law degree (whilst trying to renovate a house and with three part-time jobs to fund this said degree), Marie’s vision of a high-powered law career, a fabulous lifestyle and stunning salary was soon replaced with nappies and toddler groups.  Living permanently on building sites, she then changed her focus to interior design gaining another qualification along the way.  She dreamt once more of a fabulous salary and glamorous lifestyle, only to find herself knee-deep in nappies and toddler groups again with the birth of her second child.

The interest in interior design never left her though and, whilst renovating the properties she lived in, Marie opened several accounts with interior wholesalers.

It was around this time she was walking through her hometown and noticed a tiny shop to let in a back alley.  She leased the shop, bought the stock, employed staff and began learning about retail (making many mistakes along the way).  Luckily, she has a very supportive family and, on moving the shop to new high street premises, her good friend Claire came to the rescue – who, at least, did understand retail!

Through running the business, a gap in the market was noticed for scarves – most women wear them but it is difficult to find them online at an acceptable quality and price. Luckily, as the retail premises had grown, buying trips abroad became the norm and, therefore, sourcing scarves and pashminas in beautiful countries such as Italy became commonplace.

When not working, you’re most likely to find her: Ideally in a nice pub drinking a cold beer with my two dogs at my feet.
